Do You Use A Bumper In Your Babies Crib?
I found the bed set I am planning on getting and you can buy the bumper seprate. Do people still use bumpers in the crib for newborns? For a while I thought I heard they were unsafe but if they are selling them I am assuming they are now safe? Any insight?

I never used them with either child, I have a 19 month old and 5 month old.
Waste of money in my opinion.
They say that the bumper can be a hazard as baby gets older and can move around the crib. If baby gets close to the side and gets stuck, it can suffocate baby.
I didn’t buy a bedding set – you aren’t supposed to use blankets as they get older either for the same reason. They make a breathable bumper that still have some padding, but lets air flow through, eliminating the risk of suffication.
People do say they can cause suffocation but I used one all through my son’s infancy and never had any trouble. The theory is that the child can roll into the bumper face-first, be unable to roll out and suffocate. I used a sleep positioner when my son was small so that prevented the rolling. By the time he outgrew the positioner he was more than strong enough to roll himself away from the bumper. You are supposed to take them out once the child starts standing since they can use it to step on and get out of the crib.
I didn’t use a bumper until my daughter for 9 months old and kept getting her feet caught.
Bumpers can cause a suffocation issue for young babies, so we avoided it for that long.
Basically, just do what feels right – if you’re worried, don’t put it up. The worry will make it impossible for you sleep and just enjoy your time with your baby!
I did not use a bumper until my little one was about 3 months old or so. She is almost 2 now and I use the bumper because she always sleeps right in the corner of the bed and bumps her head if there is no bumper in there.
They’re not as safe as not using them – they restrict airflow around babies, which is a known factor in SIDS.
Your newborn will not care whether its crib has a bumper to make it look pretty. At that point, why take any additional risk at all?
I got the bumper, but didn’t use it until my daughter was about 7 months. You have to make sure it is on very tight and tuck the bottom in between the mattress and crib sides.
my baby has one and it helps when she throws herself back from not hruting her head. but now i see her trying to use it as a step to jump out the crib. but the mattress is to low for her to reach
I didn’t at first. Then when she started rolling over she kept getting her feet caught in the bars and waking up screaming. Since, I put it back in the crib, she doesn’t do that anymore!
u can use them, just make sure they are tied on very very well.. and tuck the bottom of the bumper around the side of the mattress.
many things that are sold are unsafe….doctors say it is okay to use them until the baby can roll over then you should remove them…but there is really no point.
We dont use the bumper bads
