We were given ours as a gift a week after the shower (32 weeks) but it was not put together until the day before he was born. My husband needed help putting it together and so he waited until my step-dad and little brother came into town to help him.
The best crib to buy is one you can convert to a toddler bed in the future. Also, I found it cheaper to buy a crib with the drawers and changing table on it rather than buying 3 separate pieces.

I had everything I needed for the baby by 33 weeks. I had the crib about 2 months before I had my son but I also knew I was going to have him early cause I had a really high risk pregnancy but it eases your mind if you have everything you need like a month to two months before your due date. and then when you come you still dont have everything you will need. lol so you just have to prepare the best you can.

Darling, I am starting my 34 week and I still don’t have the Crib or Dresser. My baby shower is tomorrow and I am not sure what I am in getting. I know I probably won’t get my crib but I am guessing I may get a few gift cards…I was waiting till my baby shower before I bought anything big. The less things we have to buy, the more money we can use towards bigger things.
But were in no hurry to get the crib. We have a bassinet next to our bed that we will be using till the baby out grows it. Then we will move her to her crib. I don’t see needing a crib for atleast another 3 months.

I wouldn’t wait until the last minute and here is an example of why…we ordered our crib when I was about 24 weeks because we knew what we were having and I saw a crib, dresser, changing table set that I just had to have (you know how that is). Anyway, first of all the pieces all came at different times with in a 4 week period, then when we went to pick up the dresser it had a scratch on it, so we had to take it back and get another one, that wasn’t in stock, so again we had to wait. All in all it was pretty stressful making sure we got everything we had ordered and that it was all in excellent condition. We did and got the crib together and it looked beautiful, but it took, like I said earlier, about a month.
That being said….you should get all your furniture asap. It is so nice to have the room all ready to go before your little one gets here and, to help you convince your husband tell him that he is not going to want to put together a crib (that has a million pieces) or a dresser while he is sleep deprived and cranky.
The less things you have to worry about once the baby gets here the better. You will have enough on your plate once you bring the baby home believe me.
Good luck to you and congratulations!

I had everything bought and set up by around 8 months with baby #1 and around 6 months with baby #2. I even started buying diapers ahead of time with baby #2. It is really just a personal choice. If you want it done now then now is the time other wise you will stress over it until it is done. Not to mention all of the other prep work you have left to due.

I had his crib and dresser bought and set up by when i was about 30 weeks or so lol, i was so excited and i wanted everything to be ready.
I also had the co-sleeper setup next ot my bed, which is what i used for the first 8 weeks or so, then i put him in his crib once he learned to roll over (lol which was early)
I would say get it set up sooner rather than later, just so that it’s all done and u can relax and not worry about that stuff.
Oh and i’m planning on getting my room set up with my twins stuff fairly soon, i’m 24 weeks and 2 days but i want it all doen soon so i don’t hafta worry about it.
Hope this helps and good luck, :D .

We don’t have storage room, so what we can we’re waiting to buy. We’re also waiting because boxing days sales are apparently a good opportunity to scoop some deals. That’ll be about 7 weeks before our due date, so its still lots of time if baby comes early. Set-up will probably be about 3 weeks before D-day because baby’s ‘room’ is actually part of our living/dining space.
There are a few things we have to pick up (given to us) and i feel bad them having to store it for months and months more. I also don’t want to be trucking a load of stuff home over snowy/icy canadian winter roads when i’m 7 months pregnant :-) We have also been given some gifts that i’m having to strategically store in what limited space is around (and where is can still pull it out, look at in, and put it away).

you should get the crib, and anything you are buying new, at least a few weeks in advance. for the reasons that the baby may be early and the fumes from the new plastic and varnished wood can be dangerous for baby. it needs to be allowed to air out

Our crib was given to us, and I think it was one of the first things we got, even though it was one of the last things we used.
My daughter was in a bassinet by the bed until she outgrew that, and then the bassinet part of a pack n play, and then we she outgrew that, we put her in her crib, in our room… by the bed.

We got our crib from my cousin since his daughter outgrew it shortly before I was due.
But while I was shopping around, I thought that Walmart and Babies R Us had some pretty nice cribs.
However, Babies R Us did look like they had better quality cribs.

About a month. I had the nursery set three weeks before my due date, just in case. Neither one of my kids were born early but I was ready. Peace of mind.

I got my daughters crib when I was 61/2 or 7 months pregnant. My grandma was the one who purchased the crib so I had to wait for her.
